PURPOSE AND GOALS OF COURSE: An introduction to painting, sculpture, architecture and crafts from prehistoric times to the late middle ages.

COURSE GRADE AND EVALUATION: The final course grade will be determined by the average of the students performance on the four examinations and one research project. Each examination and research project possesses equal weight and will be graded on the 100 point scale.
( 90 and above=A, 80-89=B, ect.). Each student will be allowed one make-up examination per semester (the time and nature of the make-up is at the discretion of the instructor; i.e. essay, research paper or examination at the end of the semester).
METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: You will learn the Art History topics through classroom lectures and discussions, slides, videos, reading the textbook and Internet exploration. The student will be held responsible for all materials covered in the textbook and classroom discussion.

After studying the material presented and completing the assignments in the course of study the student will be able to:
Identify as to title, civilization or period, slides chosen by the instructor of art or architecture which is representative of various periods from the prehistoric through late gothic period. | |
Demonstrate and understand the chronology or issues of the various sections of study by individual, groups or periods. | |
Indicate in essay questions a thoughtful understanding of certain aspects of each period or civilization covered over the semester. | |
Demonstrate an understanding of terms, techniques and the nomenclature of artists and cultures covered during the semester. |
